How To Make Money On Social Media

Hi guys and welcome to another blog post. Have you ever wondered how to make money blogging or running an Instagram account? Well, this blog post is all about making an income through social media. This is perfect for you whether you are a stay at home mom or a broke college student! I’ve been a blogger/influencer for almost 8 years now and I’ve been making money since my first year, at the age of only 14. Crazy right? All four years of college I was a full-time student, with a part-time job and providing everything for myself financially. My schedule was pretty hectic but having a second source of income like my Instagram has been a huge lifesaver for me. So I’m here to share with you all my social media influencer tips and how you can make money too!

One thing I want to address before we start is that followers really aren’t that important, it’s all about your influence and engagement rate. However, I will say it is pretty standard to get paid deals when you have at least 1,000 followers. Also, keep in mind at 1k you will not be making hundreds and that’s okay. It’s all about growing your brand and gaining experience so you can work your way up to bigger deals. If you guys want to know how to gain more Instagram followers I have a blog post here: 10 Tips To Gaining Instagram Followers

Making money online

1. Brand Partnerships

This is my favorite and most profitable method of making money. A brand partnership is simply working with brands in exchange for compensation. This can be done by reaching out to brands or PR agencies directly or being connected to them via an influencer marketing agency. My all-time favorite app is “TRIBE” I’ve literally made thousands of dollars on there and worked with the biggest brands! Some other ones that people like are AspireIQ, Famebit, and Izea. Another favorite platform of mine that I’ve had great success with is “Mavrck.” If you guys want another blog post with detailed reviews on all these social media services, let me know!

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a great option because you have the ability to promote whatever products you want and earn commission. There are tons of websites you can join such as Shareasale, CJ Affiliate, RewardStyle, and Amazon Affiliate/Influencer program. The two that I utilize on my blog and Instagram are RewardStyle and Amazon’s Influencer program, so I’ll be focusing on those.

My favorite and most successful is RewardStyle and it’s perfect for fashion, beauty, skincare, and home goods! Keep in mind you apply through RewardStyle but you shop pictures through liketoknow.it. So, I applied over a year ago through my Instagram and got accepted right away but I’ve heard from fellow bloggers it took them 2-3 tries to get accepted. However, keep in mind I had an active Instagram that I had been using for many years, a good engagement rate, and I was consistently posting. That’s the key to getting accepted! So wait until your account is more established and active before applying. If you guys want to shop my outfits you can check me out on liketoknow.it.

The second popular one is either Amazon affiliates or their influencer program. Both are pretty similar but the influencer program gives you a storefront so your followers can easily shop your favorite products (you can check mine out here). I like that feature better so I use the influencer program but I know tons of blogger friends who use amazon affiliates and make a great source of income! Amazon is the same as any affiliate program where you sign up and have to get approved. Once you do then you have a unique code embedded into your link that tracks your sales. If someone clicks on your link and makes a qualifying purchase, you earn a small percentage of the profit. If you want a step by step guide on how to apply you can read it here.

3. Monetizing With Ads

Ads are a popular option if you have a website or blog that gains enough traffic. I know bloggers who make hundreds and thousands of dollars from ads alone because they have over 100k monthly users. So it’s very profitable once you establish yourself and pick the right platform.

The most common of course is Google Adsense. I have used Adsense many years ago on my Tumblr site and it was really successful! I don’t have it set up on this blog yet because many people say it slows down your site and I’m more focused on growing my brand at the moment. You can go here to sign up and get started! If you have over 10,000 monthly views you can also try Monumetric. I haven’t used this personally but have heard good things about it from people that do.

4. Selling A Product

Another popular method of earning money online is by selling a product. What’s something you’re really good at and can offer to people? This can literally be anything, an ebook, presets, an online blogging course for beginners. If you’re a food blogger you can create a cookbook, lifestyle bloggers can create a course all about gaining followers on Instagram, etc. If you’re good at DIY you can create an Etsy shop and sell handmade items. Are you a talented artist or graphic designer? Sell your artwork through social media!

5. Offering A Service

This is a great option for my older, career-oriented social media expert! You can be a virtual assistant and manage social media accounts for others, coach on a topic that’s your line of expertise, and do consultation work. Have a law degree? That’s perfect because so many bloggers are looking for ways to protect their sites. You can coach them about privacy policies, disclaimer pages, etc. Do you have a degree in marketing or are you a social media marketing manager? You can consult with bloggers on what ways they can improve their social media strategy and get paid to do so.

These are some of the best ways to make an income off your Instagram, Youtube, or blogging platform. Have any other recommendations? Make sure to comment them below!

  2. Great advice!! Thank you!! 🙂

  3. Thank you for sharing! I had to turn off my Google Ads because it was wrecking my site experience (no one wants to look at plumbing ads on a food blog) and I’ve made a whopping 27¢ on Amazon Affiliates. It’s definitely time to branch out and try something new. Great ideas to try here!
